Q: How would you define reflection? What does it mean to you to be reflective, whether as a writer or otherwise? In what ways is it useful (assuming you find it useful)? What activities have we done in class or have you done outside of class that would qualify as reflection?

A: A reflection is something that goes through your head after an event. to be reflective basically all you have to do is look back and seek out the negatives or the positives of a recent or past event. it is useful for memories sake and it is useful for learning mistakes and how to and not to handle scenarios. obviously the midterm reflection was an example of a reflection. :)

This nation has many things going for it, many things that bring it up and hold it high, yet the nation and its leaders find more and more ways every day to try and hold people back. Recently it as been brought to many peoples attention that the unemployment rate in Michigan is skyrocketing. More and more people are receiving and filing for government assistance. No mind you, some people do need help, but it’s the time duration that they receive help that is one of the biggest issues for most Michiganders and Americans.
People need government assistance for many things. Maybe they are a single mother with 3 kids and the husband just passed away or left them, maybe a father of 4 and a stay at home mom way laid off, these are just a few valid reasons why a family would ask to receive checks from the government. Those reasons and people that are deserving are not the people that we are going to be talking about today, we are going to be talking about the people receiving checks that are abusing the system, and trust me there are many of them out there.
By cheating the system I mean that they are collecting unemployment checks and instead of using them to pay bills they are saving them up to buy something, to those receiving unemployment checks whom are not actively seeking a job, those on food assistance and buying 60” flat screen TV’s because they don’t have to pay for food. There is a million ways to beat the system or stick it to the man, but we are purposing a new system to combat the cheaters and the undeserving.
The main idea that we are purposing is stricter application and continued processing. By this we mean heavier application screening, monitoring of the money given, and strict time limits. One huge debate going on right now is if people receiving government assistance should take regular drug testing. …………

This topic affects each and every working class person out there. Bring a working class citizen you become a taxpayer, meaning you are forced to give money to the government each and every check that you earn from working. Depending on how much you make, huge portions can be taken out because of taxes. Where does this money go? The money you pay to the state in the form of taxes goes to an abundance of things, for example it goes to peoples social security checks, peoples food stamps and bridge cards, politicians salaries, your neighbors unemployment check, many different things yet it makes you think. Your hard earned, worked for money could be going to some slob that Is sitting in his new lazy boy massage chair, watching his new 71” plasma TV, drinking a case of bud light. Is that where you want your money to go? Most likely not, me as a taxpayer sure doesn’t want that I work hard to struggle weekly trying to save. My money, our money, shoud be going to something that benefits people in need, and something that benefits the state that we can all also benefit from.
If the government could control better whom and why and for how long people received help it would one make a lot more sense, and two be better for the state. It will be better for the state because instead of wasting thousands of dollars on people not deserving or milking the system they could do other beneficial thing. For example, better matinence of the roads, better pay for teachers of our youth, or better benefits and pay for policeman and firefighters, a huge variety of things that would add a better quality of living to the state of Michigan.
